PHOENIX, ARIZONA (2010) – As part of National Dance Week, Celebration of Dance presents its 11th Annual performances on May 1, May 2, and June 19 in Phoenix and N. Scottsdale. With 30 groups participating among the three show times, audiences will be treated to an evening of more than 20 performances representing a wide variety of dance styles, showcasing the talent of Arizona’s growing performing arts scene and it’s cultural diversity.
Purpose: beginning end of April National Dance Week is honored with nationwide dance events, a far-reaching awareness campaign designed to bring greater recognition to dance as an art form. For the past 11 years, Arizona has participated in this grass roots effort through a multi-disciplined production, Celebration of Dance. Produced by Golden Lion Productions, Celebration of Dance showcases the talents of numerous performing arts groups and soloists, in a variety of dance styles, including ballet, hip hop, jazz, modern, contemporary, flamenco, classic belly dance, Indian dances, Celtic, ballroom, tap, and much more.
Opportunity for Dancers: for the past ten years, Celebration of Dance has brought together hundreds of performing arts groups and thousands of dancers to grace Valley stages with their talent. Selected through an annual audition process (March 6th), Celebration of Dance features professional companies, dance studio performing groups, plus talented individuals and burgeoning young artists. A list of this year’s performers will be available after the audition process, by end of March:
Opportunity for the public: Celebration of Dance is an exciting mix of various and diverse dance styles presented to the public for entertainment as well as for the enjoyment of artistic and creative display of dance-arts.
Education: as part of Celebration of Dance’s educational platform, various youth organizations are invited annually to attend the concerts free of charge, providing an unforgettable opportunity for disadvantaged children. (*May 2nd matinee is a special presentation for this purpose.)
